In 1920 P.T. Selbit created the Sawing Through a Woman illusion. In 1921 Horace Goldin tried unsuccessfully to take the credit for this illusion. Over the years several magicians have made improvements to this illusion including the Great Virgil and Alan Wakeling. In 2001 Ted Outerbridge redesigned the classic Wakeling Sawing all in aluminum as the Divided Lady, and it has received critical acclaim.
